Welcome from Principal Emily Jensen

Dear Thoreau Community,

I am extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity to serve the Thoreau community as Interim Principal.  This will be my thirteenth year in the Madison Metropolitan School District, and this community is truly a place I call “home.”  I have learned so much from the students, families, staff, and community in Madison, and I look forward to continuing to build off of the great work that has already been done. 

I believe that all children have strengths and are capable of great things; we need to work together to ensure they reach their goals and succeed. Quality learning is essential, and I am committed to ensuring all students have access to a rigorous curriculum and are challenged, while keeping equity at the forefront of decisions.  I will continue to create structures to support social-emotional learning, as all students need to feel safe, heard, and valued.  I am committed to being an anti-racist leader focused on justice, love, and humanity.
