Principal's Corner
Thoreau Community,
I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to serve the Thoreau Community as your principal.
I am finishing up my fourteenth year in the Madison Metropolitan School District, and this community is truly a place I call “home.” I have learned so much from the students, families, staff, and community in Madison, and I look forward to continuing to build off of the great work this community has done together.
I believe that all children have strengths and are capable of great things; we need to work together to ensure they reach their goals and succeed. Quality learning is essential, and I am committed to ensuring all students have access to a rigorous curriculum, while keeping equity at the forefront of decisions. I will continue to create structures to support social-emotional learning, as all students need to feel safe, heard, and valued. I am committed to being an anti-racist leader focused on justice, love, and humanity.
I want to thank Thoreau students, staff, families, and community for your continued partnership, and I look forward to continuing to collaborate with you to create opportunities and positive outcomes.
Sincerely,
Emily Jensen
Principal
